Alexandre Sorokine is a Research and Development Staff member at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He earned his PhD degree in Geography from the University at Buffalo in 2004 and his master degree with a major in Physical Geography (Biogeography) in 1989 from the Moscow State University. He has more than 25 years of experience as a researcher, GIS analyst, and software developer working for academic institutions, government and industry in the USA, Japan and former Soviet Union. Dr. Sorokine’s peer-reviewed publications pertain to such topics as geospatial semantics, geographic visualization, and high-performance geocomputing. He has organized and chaired a number of sessions at the annual meetings of the Association of American Geographers, other professional meetings and was a representative to the Technical Committee of the Open Geospatial Consortium.
