The CaGIS Student Scholarships
Each year, the Cartography and Geographic Information Society (CaGIS) sponsors three scholarships to students whose research and accomplishments support the mission of CaGIS. The scholarships recognize academic achievement and encourage the continuing success of outstanding cartography, geographic information systems (GIS), and geographic information science (GIScience) students. The scholarships also recognize achievement or potential for achievement in original research advancing the specific disciplines of cartography or GIScience. Winners are selected based on academic achievement, particularly in the calendar year prior to the award. Applications are due in January, reviewed by the CaGIS Scholarship Committee, and awards are announced in March.
Map Design Competition
The Cartography and Geographic Information Society is pleased to announce our Annual Map Design Competition. The competition is open to all map-makers in the United States and Canada for maps completed or published during the past calendar year. Students are particularly encouraged to apply for the awards sponsored by the National Geographic Society and Avenza (makers of Mapublisher). The purpose of the competition is to promote interest in map design and to recognize significant design advances in cartography. CaGIS Distinguished Career Award
This award is intended to honor the accomplishments of senior professionals who have contributed substantially to the advancements of the fields of cartography, GIS or GIScience, or the interface between cartography and GIScience.
