To promote cartography and GIS research, education and practice, CaGIS sponsors and supports several research conferences.
- CaGIS 2026 – The Cartographer in the Loop: Balancing technological innovation with human expertise will be held in St. Louis, Missouri from Sep. 8-11, 2026. Come share your research and/or join the conversation about the changing relationship between humans and technology in modern cartography and GIS.
- The CaGIS Conference Series kicked off with the inaugural CaGIS + UCGIS Symposium held in Columbus, Ohio in 2024, in conjunction with the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science.
- Through the U.S. National Committee of the International Cartographic Association (USNC-ICA), CaGIS supports the International Cartographic Conference series including provision of travel funding and scholarships and coordination of entries to the International Cartographic Exhibition and Children’s Map Competition.
- CaGIS sponsored over 20 AutoCarto conferences from 1974-2022 and maintains a complete archive of AutoCarto proceedings.
