The Cartographer in the Loop
Balancing technological innovation with human expertise
Come and join us in the Gateway City as we explore the history and future of cartography and geospatial science in an era of technological innovation. Topics of interest will include geospatial algorithms and workflows, artificial intelligence and machine learning, cartographic standards and practices, and ethical and societal impacts of maps and geospatial data.
Location
St. Louis provides a wonderful central US location for the conference with an international airport (STL) on the light rail line, a variety of accommodation possibilities, and a diverse range of restaurants and entertainment options. St. Louis is known as the “Gateway to the West” as symbolized by the iconic Gateway Arch. The Arch is a landmark of progress in a new frontier – a fitting symbol for our conference as we explore the intersection of technological innovation and human expertise in cartography and geospatial information science.

Venue
The conference will be held at the Busch Student Center on the campus of St. Louis University in a vibrant neighborhood in midtown St. Louis. Nearby accommodations and dining options are located within a walkable distance although free parking for conference participants will also be provided with registration.

Partnering with Geo-Resolution 2026
We are hosting the meeting alongside Geo-Resolution, an annual event cosponsored by Saint Louis University and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency. Geo-Resolution is a one-day free event that will bring together academia, industry, and government to discuss challenges and opportunities in the geospatial community. All CaGIS conference participants will be able to attend Geo-Resolution 2026 which will be held on September 10 at the Busch Student Center.
