CaGIS Student Paper Competition

CaGIS is pleased to announce a student paper competition at the 2026 conference. Winners will receive cash prize and be invited to submit their winning papers for publication in the Cartography and Geographic Information Science journal, subject to peer review.

Eligibility

The first and presenting author must be a student enrolled at a higher education institution at the time of submission.

Submission

To participate, submit an extended abstract (1,200–1,500 words) of research that is unpublished and not currently under review elsewhere. The abstract should clearly articulate the research question, methods, results (preliminary or final), and the study’s original scientific contribution. Submit entries to EasyChair for CaGIS 2026 and select “Student Paper Competition” under “Submission Type”.

Awards and Review Process

Based on the extended abstracts, the award selection committee will identify five finalists to present their work in the Student Paper Competition session. All finalists will receive complimentary registration. Finalists will be invited to prepare and submit a full manuscript prior to the event. The committee will determine the winner(s) based on evaluation of both the submitted manuscripts and the oral presentations. The Best Student Paper Award carries a cash prize of $1,000. The committee may also award a second prize, if deemed appropriate, with a cash award of $500. Abstracts not selected for the competition will remain eligible for presentation in other regular conference sessions.
