The USNC supports US participation in the biennial conference of the International Cartographic Association. The 32nd International Cartographic Conference (ICC) was held in Vancouver, British Columbia, from August 16 to 22. A total of 748 people participated in the conference to attend keynote and technical presentations, view the International Cartographic Exhibition and the Barbara Petchenik International Children’s Map Competition, explore the technical exhibition and take technical tours, and meet friends, old and new, at social events.
Almost 750 people from over 60 countries attended the conference. US participants constituted over 10% of the total attendees, with many presenting their work in conference sessions. CaGIS International Conference grants supported 19 early career scholars and 13 non-early career scholars.

The US also participated by exhibiting the maximum of 15 entries in the International Cartographic Exhibition and 6 entries in the Children’s Map Competition.

One US entry in the Children’s Map Competition was selected to receive an award by the international panel of judges. Francis L. (6) & Patrick L. (8), Murphy, TX, won 3rd place in the ages 6-8 category.

CaGIS organized a panel session titled “Rethinking the Role of Societies for Enhancing Diversity and Services”. Participants included representatives from CaGIS, the Canadian Cartographic Association, the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, and the International Map Industry Association.

Students from the US received 6 of the 16 ICA Scholarships. Congratulations go to Lily Houtman, Zhaoxu Sui, Brynn Patrello, Hao Tian, Gareth Baldrica-Franklin, and Jikun Liu.

The 2027 ICC will take place in Warsaw, Poland from July 18 to 23, 2027. The theme of the conference is Big Data Cartography. The venues are the University of Warsaw and Warsaw University of Technology.
