We are pleased to announce that the keynote speakers for AutoCarto 2020 will be Deirdre Dalpiaz Bishop from the U.S. Census Bureau (left), Laura Bliss from CityLab (center), and Bernard Jenny from Monash University (right). We are grateful to have them join us at Redlands, CA, May 19-22!

We are pleased to announce that the Call for Submissions has been published for AutoCarto 2020, to be held May 19-22 at the Esri campus in Redlands, CA. Student assistantships for attendance are available!
2019 US National Report
Every four years, the US National Committee (USNC) for the International Cartographic Association (ICA) publishes the US National Report. The report summarizes cartography and geographic information science (GIScience) activities in the nation during the previous four years across all sectors, including academia, industry, and government.
This year’s report includes a one-page editorial by USNC chair Aileen Buckley, an open-access peer-reviewed article published in CaGIS by Keith Clarke, J. Michael Johnson, and Tim Trainor, and a comprehensive online report by multiple authors and edited by Aileen Buckley.

The Cartographic and Geographic Information Society is proud to present AutoCarto 2020, the 23rd International Research Symposium on Computer-based Cartography. The symposium will be held May 20 to 22, 2020, in Redlands, California, on the beautiful Esri campus.
Since 1974, AutoCarto been has the premier symposium to showcase transformational research in cartographic and GIScience. This meeting continues to bring together cartographers, geographers, geospatial analysts, GIScientists, and others from around the world conducting research on the cutting edge of the geospatial sciences.

CaGIS Past President Kari Craun receives Gannett Award
Kari Craun, a Past President of CaGIS, has been selected as the first recipient of the Henry Gannett internal award to recognize outstanding contributions to the geospatial community by a USGS employee. Kari is Director of the USGS National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC) and was selected for her extraordinary leadership and advancement of topographic services. Deadlines for ICC 2019 Extended
PAPER AND ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED!
We are pleased to inform you that in response to the overwhelming demand the deadline for full paper submission was extended to December 12, 2018. The deadline for abstract submission was also extended to January 8, 2019.
International Cartographic Association (ICA) encourages submissions from all interested participants from across the globe.

29th International Cartographic Conference
The 29th International Cartographic Conference (ICC) will take place in Tokyo, Japan, from July 15-20, 2019. Interested participants should take note of the December 12 deadline for full manuscripts and the January 8 deadline for abstracts and publication in the proceedings. Map Design and Scholarship Competitions
CaGIS is proud to announce two competitions of likely interest to its members. The Map Design Competition is open to all map-makers in the US and Canada for maps created in the past year. Students are particularly encouraged to apply, and the deadline for submission is January 31, 2019. The CaGIS Student Scholarship competition is also open. CaGIS is sponsoring both masters and doctoral scholarships. The deadline for scholarship application is January 19, 2019.
